Crushers Win Bantam A Title in Thriller
With the Bantam A title on the line in the fifth and deciding game and the stands abuzz with the hype reserved for such a finale, the RBC Crushers and the RBC Generals clashed on Friday night at Bussey Horwood Arena. The players did not disappoint as fans were treated to 45 minutes of intense, physical and fast hockey. Superb goaltending from William Dyke for the Generals and Cavan Rossiter was a delight to watch as they both constantly used slick pad work and quick reflexes to deny every scoring opportunity. The scoreboard remained blank for the first two periods. The game changer was a razor sharp slot pass from a hustling Stephen Abbott to Zach Hawco, who snapped a perfect five-hole shot on Dyke as he slid across the crease with three minutes to play in the third period. The Generals never surrendered and battled the Crushers to the end. However, the Crushers hung on for a thrilling 1-0 victory. In the earlier deciding game for the bronze medal, the RBC Guardians played one of their best games of the season on way to a solid 3-0 win over the RBC Thrashers. Nathan Wicks-Parsons was sharp in the Guardians’ net to earn the shut-out, while Luke Gosse managed to keep things close for the Thrashers. On this night, with goals from Captain Nathan Carter, Kyle Martel and Lucas Roche, the Guardians play-making proved decisive. The bronze win by the last-place Guardians reminded everyone that, in the DJHL’s pooled RBC Divisions, any team can out-perform the other with the right effort and commitment to selfless teamwork. TP
