Guardians are Latest Sportscraft Play-off Team of the Week

Winner of the Sportscraft Playoff Team of the Week in the fourth week of the DJHL post season is the Scotiabank U15AA Guardians.

Coming into the post season the Guardians finished last place in a very strong AA division. For the first time the U15 AA division teams are playing a best of 5 series for both the DJHL and provincial championships.

In the semi-finals, the Guardians played against the highly skilled Scotiabank Centurions, who placed first in the U15AA division and 20 points ahead of the Guardians.  The Guardians opened their playoff-run with an exciting 5-4 win thanks to a shootout highlight finish. They then took a 5-2 defeat on the chin in game 2 before bouncing back with another shootout win in game 3 with a score of 4 to 3. The Green Machine then closed out the series with an exhilarating 3-2 victory in game 4 at the Glacier.

The games were very tight and required every single Guardians player to step-up their game in order to beat the talented Centurions. Each Guardian was given a role and they all bought into it. The backbones of their team, goalies Hunter Hogan and Rogan Drodge, made timely saves during all games, especially in the shootouts, and scoring came from both defence and forwards. The team simply battled from start to finish.

The Guardians now await the winner of the Privateers and Spartans series to compete in another best of five series for the DJHL and Provincial Championship.

The DJHL will be arranging a visit for the captaincy of the Guardians to Sportscraft to claim prizes for their teammates. Bravo to a team that was a clear underdog. Now that has all changed.
